Update and old bugs report
It's been a while...
Man, a lot has happened. Earlier this month, I got to visit San Francisco. It ended up being a pretty long trip. I still had a lot of fun and got to eat some really good sushi while I was there.
Lately, I haven't been writing much code outside of work. Instead, I've mostly been reading random things I come across online. I've also started picking up my Chinese reading habit again.
Man, I remember the days when I could stay up all night reading with a blanket over my head and still make it to school the next morning, finishing multiple books or hundreds of chapters in a single night.
Now, after reading more and more Chinese web novels, I think I've become a lot pickier about the books I'm willing to invest my time in. Though, as always, comedy novels still seem to get picked from the jar more often than not.
Anyway, moving on to some random stuff I wanted to write about.
Recently, I submitted a bug report for my Supernote e-ink device. I've always been a big fan of Remarkable, but man, the plugin and application ecosystem is awful. I absolutely hate GTK.
One of the reasons I got a Supernote was because of its React-based plugin system. Since it's built on top of an older version of Android, developing for it feels much more approachable.
The bug itself was pretty simple: whenever I tried to select a pen color, the application would just crash. Below is a screenshot showing the reproduction steps I provided (I was given permission to share it).

From the error message, it looked like the app was running in development mode and outputting stack traces. I didn't look too much into it since it was around 2 AM, so I just wrote up a basic email with the reproduction steps and submitted the bug report.
This was a few months ago, and I was later told that it had been fixed, so that was nice. Just some small updates here and there.
Uhhmmm, what else, what else...
Not a lot of other stuff, but since it's been a while since I shared anime things, let's pick that back up a bit here, I guess.
Though I think I talked about Shin-chan in my last blog LOL.
I've been watching Wistoria: Wand and Sword Season 2 quite a bit. It's a good turn-your-brain-off anime, but it still has a solid story and really good animation. Cool system, cool anime.
Alright, let's do a quick rundown:
Daemons of the Shadow Realm - A cool series where people make contracts with spirit creatures (daemons). The author is the same person who made Fullmetal Alchemist, so you already know it's going to be something good.
MARRIAGETOXIN - A cool manga to read during lunch. Same as Wistoria, I can just turn my brain off and enjoy it.
Scum of the Brave - Oh man, I really like the characters in this one. They're definitely unique, the power system is cool, and the animation is pretty good. The 3D parts could use some work, and I feel like the story could be a bit stronger, but the characters are definitely cool.
Smoking Behind the Supermarket with You - This one was a banger. I wasn't expecting much going in, but it ended up being a really chill slice-of-life series. The character dynamics were great, and I really liked the cast. Night Dancer as the ED had some crazy budget behind it. Overall, I definitely recommend it.
Journal with Witch - This is actually one of the main reasons I wanted to make this post. The past few weeks, I've mostly just been doing whatever. Nothing has really changed, and there hasn't been much to look forward to. This anime definitely asks the viewer the question of who they are in general.
The main character, Asa, starts a new life with her aunt after the death of her parents. Her aunt is pretty antisocial and kind of a weirdo (HAHA, who's calling me?). Without spoiling too much, the story explores Asa's childhood, how she has been living up until now, and how she slowly starts deciding who she wants to become while learning that everyone is struggling on this giant paint palette we call life, all mixing their own colors together.
I definitely connected with Asa more after learning about her life with her aunt after her parents passed away. There were definitely parts of my own life that felt similar after losing someone close to me. I remember living with my sister for a few years and learning a lot about living in a big family while I was living with her and her husband's family, which was pretty big and I was kind of an outsider. During COVID, I also lived with my cousins, and I learned more and more about what it means to just be a person, I guess.
I remember sleeping on a treadmill for almost two years at my cousin's place. Haha, I had fun.
Anyway, this is a series I definitely recommend checking out.
